Some recipes just feel like home.
This one takes me back to warm summer evenings, picking berries with my dad and brother. We’d head out to the bushes, fingers stained and arms scratched, eating more than we brought back—but always cherishing the memories of time together.
That’s the spirit of this crumble. It’s not fussy or fancy. It’s tart and sweet, soft and crisp. You can eat it straight from the pan or take the extra step and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream—up to you. Either way, it’s one of those recipes that tastes like a hug.
This is what I make when I want something familiar but still a little special. When I want to feel connected.
Berry Crumble Recipe
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 35–40 minutes
Servings: 8–10
Ingredients
- 4 cups assorted fresh berries (thawed if using frozen)
- 4 tablespoons maple sugar (or white sugar)
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup coconut sugar (or packed brown sugar)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Dash of salt
- 1½ cups unsalted cold butter, cut into small cubes
Instructions
- Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease or line a 13×9-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- Sweeten the Berries: In a bowl, toss the berries with maple or white sugar. Set aside and try not to snack on them (or do—your call).
- Make the Crumble: In a large bowl, mix together flour, oats, coconut sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to cut it in until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
- Layer It Up: Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of your prepared pan. Spread the sugared berries on top, then sprinkle the remaining crumble evenly over the fruit.
- Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the berries are bubbling.
- Serve: Let it cool slightly, then serve warm with ice cream… or eat it straight from the pan with a spoon while standing at the counter. No judgment here.
This crumble is pure nostalgia with a golden crust. It’s the kind of dessert that invites you to breathe a little deeper and remember where you’ve come from. The kind that lingers in the best way.
